afrika bambaataa, rapper, producer, dj from the south bronx, new york. afrika bambaataa is one of the originators of breakbeat djing and is respectfully known as the godfather of zulu nation and amen ra of hip hop culture. in 2007 has been nominated for induction into the rock hall of fame and in 2008 he has been honored by the bronx museum of arts. afrika bambaataa’s long career is pointed by many hits and masterpieces such as reckless, unity, just get up and dance and pupunanny. countless collaborations with artists such as ub40, james brown, boy george, leftfield just to name few of them. afrika bambaataa has recorded with many labels from tommy boy to capitol records and profile but it is with the italian label dfc (expanded music) that he has releases most of his recordings. bring it up is the new release on dfc label produced by dj/producer paul carpenter. this release includes three versions in big room/edm style along with a mega-mix and a full acapella collection of all previous recordings released by bambaataa on dfc label. two lyrics videos come to support the release.

children of alice produzieren seit 2013 als teil des folklore-tapes-kollektivs amorphe und berauschende klanglandschaften und fassen nun alle ihre werke in einem selbstbetitelten debütalbum zusammen. die band markiert die post-broadcast-Ära von james cargill, den name wählte er als tribut an die verstorbene broadcast-sängerin trish keenan, für die “alice im wunderland” - speziell in der adaption des britischen theaterregisseurs jonathan miller als 1960’er sommeridylle - wegweisende inspiration war. neben cargill gehören der ehemalige broadcast-keyboarder roj stevens und julian house aka the focus group, mitbegründer von ghost box records, zum trio. letzterer veröffentlichte zusammen mit broadcast bereits 2009 das minialbum “broadcast & the focus group investigate witch cults of the radio age”. beide formate erscheinen im mirri board packaging (stabiler, hochglänzender spiegelkarton). die lp enthält neben einem download-code noch eine miniposter.

ghana soundz was the first ever soundway compilation and became recognised worldwide due to the licensing of the oscar sulley track, ‘bukom mashie’ to the soundtrack of hollywood blockbuster, ‘last king of scotland’.
pounding rhythms, blaring horns and pumping vocals – the music is a document of a time forgotten when flares and cuban heels strutted the streets and night-spots of accra, the sizzlingly hot and humid capital of ghana. influenced as much by traditional rhythms and local highlife as by the music of fela kuti, james brown and santana, these tunes had almost become extinct – until now!

returning to hypercolour with a second volume of his sugar cane chronicles, gary gritness lays down more devastating funk and classy riffing over his trusty roland 606. after the first volume, released last april, sold out its vinyl run, gritness delivers more explorations and adventures into his unique and soulful world. having elusively built his reputation as an outstanding session player, live producer and fantastically dressed funkateer, gritness has delivered a handful of releases on labels like clone crown ltd, nyami nyami and his own diy and cassette-only slikk tapes. steady choosin gets downright fusion-jazz and gritness fires out seductive melodies and latin piano playing of the highest order whilst countin up with starr delves into a darker well of synth mania, with a sexual groove reminiscing of rick james, all the while retaining garys signature licks and riffs. runner joes revenge on the flip ramps up the hysteria for a gritty and colossal production that typifies his love of cyberpunk soundtracks and the drama and narrative to be found in this style. the sugar cane chronicles vol. 2 closes with the low-slung pool shark loot wrapping up on a mysterious and captivating tone, its wandering bassline and melodic touches carrying all the signature gritness sounds, with the p-funk sleaziness on top.
